How to Reset a Hisense TV (Soft Reset, Hard Reset, Factory Reset)

There are three types of reset for a Hisense TV. A soft reset clears RAM and current app state — fixes 70% of issues, takes 30 seconds, doesn't lose any data. A hard reset is a deeper power-cycle. A factory reset wipes everything to factory defaults — only do this if 1 and 2 don't fix the problem.

They factory-reset, lose all their settings, and wonder why anyone would design it this way. Save yourself by trying the easier ones first.

Soft Reset — when the TV is misbehaving but works

Use when: An app crashed, streaming buffer keeps spinning, remote responds slowly, picture is glitchy, sound is garbled.

VIDAA TVs

  1. Press and hold the Power button on your remote (or the physical TV button) for 5 seconds.
  2. The TV restarts.

Hisense Roku TV

Settings → System → Power → System restart. Or hold the back-of-TV joystick in for 10 seconds.

Hisense Google TV

Press and hold the Power button on the remote until you see "Restart now".

Hisense Fire TV

Home → Settings → My Fire TV → Restart.

A soft reset preserves all your settings, apps, and accounts. Always try this first.

Hard Reset — when soft reset doesn't help

Use when: Soft reset didn't fix the issue, TV is frozen, won't progress past the logo, firmware update may have caused issues.

  1. Unplug the TV from the wall.
  2. Press and hold the TV's physical power button for 60 seconds.
  3. Wait another 60 seconds with the TV unplugged.
  4. Plug back in.
  5. Press the physical power button once to turn on.

The 60-second hold drains residual capacitor charge in the power supply. A hard reset preserves all your settings.

Factory Reset — only when nothing else works

Use when: Soft and hard resets didn't help, you're selling the TV, settings are corrupted.

Warning: this wipes everything. All Wi-Fi credentials, streaming app accounts, picture/sound calibration, parental controls, HDMI input names.

After a factory reset — set up faster

  1. Have your Wi-Fi password ready. Use a USB keyboard — much faster than the on-screen kbd.
  2. Install the phone remote app right after Wi-Fi. From then on, every password (Netflix, Disney+) you can type using the app's full QWERTY keyboard.
  3. Skip the streaming apps you don't use.
  4. Skip account creation prompts. Hisense / VIDAA / Roku push you to create accounts. None are required.

Total time: ~15 minutes with the phone app, ~30+ minutes with the on-screen keyboard.
